hardwarecheckup.com ("we", "the site") provides a free collection of browser-based hardware tests. This page explains what data is and isn't collected when you use the site.

How the tests work

Every tool runs entirely in your browser using standard web APIs. Your camera and microphone streams, keystrokes, mouse events, and screen output are processed locally on your device and are never transmitted to, recorded by, or stored on any server operated by this site. We do not record video or audio, and we never upload anything you produce while testing. When you stop a test or leave a page, any active camera or microphone stream is released.

Full Checkup history

The Full Checkup keeps its run in your browser's local storage. Nothing from it leaves your browser unless you press Save to history on the Full Checkup page.

That press stores the checkup with sch3ma.com, the service that keeps the history for this site. It stores the machine name you type and each step's answer: works, problem or skipped. It also stores any note you typed, any measurement the step took (for example, the refresh rate), and the time of each answer. Last, it stores the time the run started and whether every step has an answer. It does not store camera images, audio, keystrokes or the system details on the report card. After the first save, each step you finish updates the same saved checkup.

The first save creates an anonymous identity in this browser, and only that identity can read its history. sch3ma keeps the sign-in credentials for that identity in your browser's local storage and in a cookie. If you sign in with an email to keep the history on every device, sch3ma also stores that email address and sends the sign-in link to it.

To delete a saved checkup, press Delete beside it on the Full Checkup page. The site then never shows it again. sch3ma keeps a deleted checkup hidden, where only the site owner can reach it to undo an accidental delete. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes the anonymous identity from the browser, but not the saved checkups, so delete them first.

Camera and microphone permissions

The webcam and microphone tests ask your browser for permission to access those devices. Granting permission lets the test show you a live preview or meter in your browser only; it does not give this site the ability to save or send that data. You can revoke the permission at any time in your browser's site settings. The site keeps two things in your browser's local storage on your device: your light/dark theme choice and the Full Checkup run.

Cookies and advertising

This site may display advertisements served by third-party ad networks, such as Google AdSense. These networks may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or generally at aboutads.info.

Analytics

This site runs no analytics. There is no first-party analytics script, no page-view counter and no analytics beacons, so we do not measure your visit, your country or your device type. We also keep no server-side application and no access logs of our own, because the pages are static files served by our host.
